Programs and Opportunities for K-12 Students

Programs and Opportunities
State of Florida Science & Engineering Fair Summer Intern
This is a paying internship for one graduating high school senior with an outstanding science fair project competing in the Florida State Science & Engineering fair. Student must also be pursuing a degree in a field related to KSC's mission - such as engineering.

State of Florida Regional Science Fairs
This program is designed to have qualified KSC engineers and scientists serve as science fairs judges, who will demonstrate technical expertise, knowledge, and encouragement to students. NASA certificates of Merit are presented at the three Brevard County Regional Science Fairs to ten students whose projects demonstrate a direct correlation to NASA's overall missions, programs, and activities.

Inspire Program
The Interdisciplinary National Science Project Incorporating Research and Education Experience, or INSPIRE, is a multi-tiered student pipeline project for students and their parent or legal guardian. Participating students must be in grades 9-12 or in their freshman year of college. INSPIRE is designed to provide grade-appropriate NASA-related resources and experiences to encourage and reinforce students' aspirations to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, education and careers. The project also offers resources and information for parents to help them better champion their student's goals. INSPIRE provides participants a rich online community, as well as opportunities to compete to participate in NASA/STEM Experiences.

Kennedy Space Center Intern Program
The Kennedy Space Center's (KSC) Intern Program is intended to attract students who are pursuing a degree which KSC normally recruits to work during the summer months as well as other academic terms. The objective is to provide students valuable work experience related to their academic studies and knowledge of KSC's mission. The Program also provides KSC an opportunity to evaluate the student's suitability for participation in the Co-op Program or full-time employment upon graduation.

Kennedy Space Center National Explorer Schools (NES)
NASA's challenging and exciting missions provide unique opportunities for engaging and educating the nation's youth. The benefits, to NASA, the Nation, and the world of engaging students in scientific and engineering adventures cannot be overstated. By stimulating their imaginations and creativity and by meaningfully communicating the significance of NASA's discoveries and developments to them, we expect to improve the scientific and technological literacy of our young people and inspire them to pursue careers in science, technology, and engineering. -->

Kennedy Space Center Community Outreach Programs in Education (COPE)
The KSC center-unique Community Outreach Programs in Education (COPE) encompass a broad array of programs and activities. The majority of the activities are local and customer-driven. Students, educators, civic groups and local residents have numerous, diverse requests for NASA educational infomration and assistance. Some requests are spontaneous, some recur each year, and some result in the development of sustainable, repeatable programs. Formal and informal education objectives are accomplished through COPE activities. COPE activities are often the segment of the pipeline through which participants move from informal to formal programs.
