Current Projects

The Virtual Lab is a free, downloadable, CD-ROM based program providing virtual access to a variety of scientific instruments. The direct interaction empowers users to explore and investigate. Within the instrument software, the students continue their exploration and learn from directly manipulating the instrument controls. They also learn from short videos that provide information about how the instrument works, how it is used at NASA, and how the specimens are prepared. By providing a fun, hands-on experience that brings relevance to class material, we hope to inspire the next generation of explorers.
New!! Bring a launch countdown to your classroom!!
Kennedy Launch Academy Simulation System (KLASS)

Bring a launch countdown into your classroom! Would your students like to serve as console engineers for a launch countdown? Now they can! Based on the actual software used for training in the Launch Control Center, this software enables a launch countdown simulation with any networked system of computers. Materials are created by teachers for teachers, with alignment to national standards. There are five console stations for your student engineers, Main Engines, External Tank, BioMed (OBS), Weather, and Environmental Control. While this is targeted at middle school, it is very easily scaled up to the high school level. For information on being a beta school tester, please email the contact at the bottom of this page.
For background materials that you can use in your classroom right now, and for lesson plans to use with the KLASS software, click here: KLASS Home Page . This software is being presented at the National Science Teachers Association conference in St. Louis on Thursday, March 9, 2007, 9:30-10:30 am in the America's Center, Room 263, in a hands-on session. Come join us for the fun! If you can't be there, just download the material at the link above. The software is easily scaled up or down anywhere from a one-day session to a one to three year curriculum! More information on that will be available soon!!

The Enter the Firing Room website highlights System Engineers who work in KSC’s launch firing rooms. The site includes shuttle processing information, fun facts, pictures and a special page for educators. Students get a chance to meet actual engineers through videos and biographies. Videos of astronauts are also featured on the site. After exploring the site, students can test their knowledge by taking the Launch Simulation Quiz. The site also provides links to student employment opportunities at NASA.
Coming Soon!!
Rocket Scientists
Our Launch Services Program at KSC is responsible for our many rocket launches. The Rocket Scientists website will highlight System Engineers who work in KSC's launch firing rooms for expendable vehicles. The site will includes rocket processing information, background data on the vehicles, fun facts, and pictures. Students get a chance to meet the rocket system engineers through videos and biographies. After exploring the site, students can test their knowledge by assembling a rocket from main engine all the way to a payload!
